WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Freshmen
Heather Mottau (Milton, Mass.) and
Hayley Scamurra (Williamsville, N.Y.) of the Northeastern women's hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday. Northeastern was the only team in the conference to place two skaters on the All-Rookie Team.
The lone defenseman to be named to the All-Rookie Team, Mottau leads all Hockey East freshman blueliners with 18 points on five goals and 13 assists. A unanimous selection, Mottau ranks sixth on the team in scoring and leads all Northeastern defensemen with 77 shots on goal. Mottau also ranks 26th nationally among rookie scorers with 0.53 points per game.
Scamurra, the Hockey East Rookie of the Month in February, ranks fifth in the nation among freshman scorers with 0.79 points per game. Scamurra has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in her first season as a Husky and ranks sixth in Hockey East in points among rookie scorers. Scamurra notched points in eight of nine games in February as Northeastern posted an 8-1-0 record during the month.Â
Winners of 12 of their last 13 games, the Huskies (19-13-2) will face rival Boston University in the WHEA Semifinals on Saturday in Hyannis, Mass. With a win, Northeastern will advance to its third conference final in the last four years. Opening faceoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
