Northeastern's Mari Creatini scored off a Sara Webber pass 3:30 into the first half and the Huskies went on to post a 6-0 America East victory over Albany on Friday afternoon at Albany Field. Northeastern, the nation's 11th-ranked team, improved its record to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Albany kept NU's leading scorers Liane Dixon and Fior Arrindell off the scoreboard, but Webber found the back of the net twice to go along with two assists. The junior forward tallied two first-half goals to stake her team to a 3-0 halftime lead.
Jay Quinn increased that lead as she took a cross from Creatini and put it into the left side of the net at 44:03. Maureen Connelly's shot on Albany goalie Megan Akstin skidded past her for the fifth goal. Northeastern's final tally was scored with 58 seconds remaining as Sarah Broderick recorded her fifth goal of the season.
Akstin stopped nine shots, including two saves on two penalty-stroke opportunities in the second half. Emily Roy and Diana Nelson combined on the shutout in the Northeastern cage.
