BOSTON -- The Northeastern men's soccer team is in control of its own destiny on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies host James Madison in the regular season finale with a berth to the CAA tournament on the line.

Thank you seniors
Prior to Saturday's match, Northeastern will honor the six members of the 2014 senior class (Jacob Aduama, Hamadi Cantave, Simon Cox, Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave, Nick Goo, Ambry Moss) for their dedication to the Huskies and the Northeastern community.

During their four-plus season on Huntington Avenue, the group has led the Huskies to a 41-37-14 record that includes three straight trips to the CAA tournament, the program's first-ever CAA championship in 2012 and Northeastern's first appearance in the NCAA tournament in a decade. They have also made their home turf one of the toughest venues for opposing teams, going 24-11-3 at Parsons Field during their tenures.

Playoff push
Northeastern enters Saturday's match in a tight race for the final playoff spot in next week's CAA tournament, and is currently tied with William & Mary with 10 points. With William & Mary already having completed its conference slate, a Northeastern win or tie on Saturday against the Dukes would send NU into the postseason for the fourth straight season. A James Madison win would eliminate the Huskies from playoff contention.

With just three points separating six teams in the conference standings, Northeastern could finish anywhere from third to seventh in the final standings, which is the difference between hosting a quarterfinal match or missing the playoffs.

Last time out
Paced by a career-high 10 saves from junior goalkeeper Dylan Faber, the Northeastern men's soccer team (6-10-1, 3-3-1) picked up one point in the CAA standings with a 0-0 draw at Hofstra on Wednesday night.

Faber was tested throughout the match, but saved his best for last with three saves in the second overtime against the Pride, including a game-saving stop on Maid Memic with two seconds remaining in the game. Hofstra outshot the Huskies 24-14 in the match, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Pride also earned eight corners to NU's four.

Pierrot earns weekly accolades
After potting a pair of goals last Wednesday at Delaware, Northeastern freshman forward Frantzdy Pierrot has been named the CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Pierrot scored his first goal in the 20th minute of the match when he buried a shot from 10 yards out past UD goalkeeper Borja Barbero to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. With the game in overtime and the Huskies in search of a crucial three points in the league standings, Pierrot came through again with a header off a corner from Daniel Arvidsson to secure the win for NU, 3-2.

The Melrose, Massachusetts native leads the team with four goals and three assists this season, and is tied for 10th in the league with 11 points. He's also tied for seventh in the CAA in goals and tied for eighth in assists.

Faber comes up big at Hofstra
With Northeastern's playoff positioning hanging in the balance, the Huskies turned to junior Dylan Faber to defend the goal on Wednesday night at Hofstra. The Anchorage, Alaska native responded in a big way, steering aside a career-high 10 saves to earn the clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with the Pride. It was the first time since 2006 (Mahmoud Tallat, 13 saves) that a NU keeper made at least 10 stops.

Mpofu in the clutch
When Ackim Mpofu's number has been called this season, the freshman midfielder has delivered. Mpofu has three goals on the season, two of which coming in overtime against UMass Lowell and Drexel. The Bulawayo, Zimbabwe native is tied for third on the team this season with six points.

Cardiac canines
The Huskies picked up their fourth overtime victory of the season last Wednesday at Delaware. Northeastern's overtime win improved the Huskies to 9-1-8 in overtime since the 2012 season. NU also has overtime wins against Drexel, at Stony Brook and against UMass Lowell this season. Northeastern three overtime victories this season are tied for the second most in program history, trailing only the 2012 campaign when NU won five games in extra time en route to the NCAA tournament.

Freshmen leading the charge
Northeastern has looked to its rookies to provide a spark in the attacking third this season. The Huskies have recorded 28 of the team's 43 points from rookies this season (10 goals, eight assists), led by Frantzdy Pierrot. The Melrose, Massachusetts native is a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree, and has 11 points this year (four goals, three assists). Pierrot had a career-high three assists at Stony Brook on Sept. 28, marking the first time that a Husky has recorded three assists in a game since Greg Kilkenny accomplished the feat against Maine on Sept. 9, 2007.

The series with the Dukes
Northeastern and James Madison have gone back and forth in the all-time series between the two squads, going 5-5-2. NU is unbeaten (3-0-0) in each of the last three meetings with the Dukes, outscoring JMU by a combined 8-1 in those games.

Ainscough enters 10th season
Head coach Brian Ainscough is in his 10th season at Northeastern, becoming the longest tenured head coach in program history. He is 76-78-32 while on Huntington Avenue, and is second in team history in career victories at Northeastern (Ed Matz, 83).

During his time at NU, Ainscough has led the Huskies to three seasons with 10 or more wins, including the 2012 campaign that saw the Huskies capture the program's first-ever CAA championship and return to the national tournament for the first time since 2002. Ainscough's squads have been known for their staunch defense over the last nine seasons. His teams have allowed 20 goals or fewer four times, while the 2012 (16 goals allowed) and 2013 (19 goals allowed) teams surrendered two of the lowest goals against totals in team history. Overall, Ainscough is 161-153-47 in 19-plus seasons as a head coach.
