Huskies find success at Head of the Housatonic

SHELTON, Conn. – The Northeastern men's and women's rowing teams commenced the fall season on Saturday morning at Indian Well State Park for the annual Head of the Housatonic, with the men's eight finishing second overall while the women's eight took sixth.
 
The men's team, which entered four boats into the eights race, went up against the likes of Harvard, Yale and Brown in its first action of the season, finished second with a time of 12:11.2 with Braeden Camp in the stroke seat, seven seconds behind Yale at 12:04.4. The Huskies also took the sixth and seventh spots with times of 12:40.7 and 12:40, respectively, while Northeastern's fourth eight placed 14th with a time of 13:09.6.
 
On the women's side, the first varsity battled Yale, Radcliffe and Brown throughout the duration of the course, ultimately taking sixth at 14:16.2 with Madison Mailey in the stroke seat while the second varsity was 10th overall, clocking in at 14:26.1.
 
Each member of the women's team rowed twice on Saturday. In addition to the eights races, NU also had three boats compete in the fours, with Katie Cooper's boat leading the group with a third place finish at 16:01.5. Northeastern entered three pairs boats with Mailey and Jocelyn Mongillo taking third (16:52.8).
 
The Huskies will be back in action in two weeks for the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta back in Boston.
