CLEMSON, S.C. – The Northeastern women's rowing team took on some of the nation's top crews over the weekend at the Clemson Invitational, advancing its second varsity and second varsity four to the B Final, while the first varsity and varsity four reached the C Final on Lake Hartwell. 
 
Eight nationally ranked teams, and an additional five crews receiving votes in the CRCA/USRowing poll, all competed during the weekend.
 
The first varsity, which finished sixth (6:34.41) and fifth (6:45.14) in its heats on Friday and Saturday to earn a spot in the C Final, went up against the likes of Tennessee, Cornell, Oklahoma, UCF, Clemson and Boston University. There, the Huskies went toe-to-toe with the Volunteers and the Big Red, quickly making it a three-boat race for first, but it was Tennessee who ultimately came out on top with a time of 6:23.74 while the Huskies crossed second at 6:25.95.
 
Coxed by Sara Corey, the second varsity boat was in a tight race with several crews during its Friday night heat, taking fifth just behind Duke, Oregon State, Indiana and Wisconsin at 6:40.39 before avenging the Blue Devils the following morning with a fourth place finish in the second heat (6:54.32) to move on to the B Final. That's where the Huskies met Syracuse, Minnesota, Clemson, Oregon State, Duke and UCLA where Northeastern battled to a fourth place finish (6:35.27) in a race that saw Syracuse win by four seconds while the other six boats overlapped throughout the course.
 
The varsity four also found themselves in the C Final thanks to a sixth place (7:37.73) and seventh place finish (7:43.92) in the heats before coxswain Kiera Bohen and stroke seat Monica McEwan led the crew to a fifth place finish in the final with a time of 7:31.07, just behind Navy and UCF.
 
The second varsity four, meanwhile, reached the B Final after a seventh (7:39.37) and fifth place (7:45.35) in the heats, and coxswain Catherine Eirefled Northeastern to a fourth place finish there at 7:42.76, eight seconds ahead of Tulsa, Navy and Clemson.
 
Northeastern will be back in action next weekend when the Huskies travel to Derby, Conn. to take on Yale and Harvard.
