– Through its partnership with Team IMPACT, the Northeastern men's soccer team proudly welcomed its newest and youngest recruit – Simon Pelletier of Winthrop, Massachusetts – to the program on Wednesday evening as the 8-year old signed his National Letter of Intent in front of his Huskies teammates at Parsons Field.
Northeastern men's soccer head coach Chris Gbandi
opened the Draft Day ceremony, introducing Simon before presenting him with his signing letter. Simon, who is courageously battling lymphoma, is one of more than 10 Team IMPACT matches that has been partnered with Northeastern varsity programs since 2012.
"We are super excited to have this young man on board with our group," said Gbandi. "To Simon, your mom Lisa, and your sister Stella, we want to say welcome to our family."
Simon's mother, Lisa, shared her appreciation for the Northeastern men's soccer team in welcoming Simon to the program.
"I just want to say thank you to Team IMPACT and to Northeastern," said Lisa. "Simon is really, really excited to be a part of the team. It means a lot to us that [this] organization exists and that as a team, you are willing to support him and have Simon be a part of your practices and games. It really means a lot to us."
Upon Simon officially signing his name to become a member of the Huskies, Gbandi presented him with his first item of team gear: an official Northeastern men's soccer hat. Simon will also be receiving his own Northeastern locker in addition to an official team kit and be invited to all team functions during the year.
