Celebrating 50 Years of Title IX

Throughout the 2021-22 season, the NCAA and its membership have celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which commemorates the landmark federal law signed in 1972 that prohibits gender discrimination in educational programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day

This February, Northeastern Athletics hosted its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day panel featuring former ESPN Women’s Sports Programming VP Carol Stiff, New Jersey Devils Executive Director of Hockey Management and Operations and Northeastern alumna Kate Madigan and WomenX Director and DEI advocate Tiffany Bullock. The panel was hosted by New England Revolution reporter and host Elizabeth Pehota

Title IX is part of the Education Amendments of 1972 and was signed into law June 23. It states, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
