BOSTON –
Northeastern University men's soccer head coach
Rich Weinrebe has added two new members to his coaching staff – new assistant coach
Ian De Oliveira, and volunteer assistant coach
Renato Rosas.
"We are thrilled to welcome the addition of two fantastic people, and coaches, to our program," said head coach
Rich Weinrebe. "Our goal throughout the process was to identify coaches who had high character, and ability to support our student-athletes on and off the field. We feel that Ian and Renato fill those needs perfectly and we will hit the ground running."
Ian De Oliveira joins Northeastern from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, where he served as the team's goalkeeper coach. Under Oliveira, the Herd allowed just 0.74 goals per game in the 2022 season, holding opponents scoreless seven times including their opening game of the NCAA tournament against Elon. While working with the goalkeepers, Oliveira also dealt with opponent scouting, performance analysis, and game review. Oliveira also was a goalkeeper coach for West Virginia United in the USL2 division. In his playing days, Oliveira was a member of two National Title-winning Charleston teams in 2017 and 2019, the first two national titles in school history. Oliveira earned his Business Administration degree from the University of Charleston in 2020, and his Masters in Science of Strategic Leadership in 2022 from the same institution.
Renato Rosas joins the Huskies from Clark University in Worcester, where he served as an assistant coach for four seasons, and the New England Futbol Club, where he served as head coach. Rosas attended Regis College in Weston, Mass. While earning a BA in psychology and a masters in organizational communication, Rosas played midfield for the Pride, tallying a career 12 goals and nine assists in 75 appearances. He began his post-graduate career into soccer coaching when he joined the Regis staff as a Graduate Assistant, eventually moving on to Clark University in a full-time roll.
The Huskies open up the 2023 season this month, with a Thursday night matchup at UMass on August 24, and a home match up with UMass Lowell the following Monday, August 28 at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field.
