BOSTON – Brooke Queenan has been named the graduate assistant manager for the Northeastern women's basketball program, head coach
Kelly Cole announced on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Queenan, a 2006 graduate from Boston College, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Huntington Ave. The West Chester, Pennsylvania, native played at Boston College from 2002-2006, where she developed a relationship with Cole, then an assistant coach with the program.
"With the addition of Brooke, the women's basketball program has gained a tremendous person as we head into the upcoming season," Cole said. "Brooke brings experience, a great work ethic, and a fantastic amount of basketball acumen to our program. I'm very proud to welcome her to the Northeastern family."
While at Boston College, Queenan helped lead the Eagles to NCAA Sweet Sixteen tournament appearances in the 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons and a 90-38 record overall. In 2003, her sophomore season, Queenan helped lead BC to the BIG EAST conference championship.
Her hard work at Boston College was rewarded when she was named a captain for the 2005-06 season. She is a member of the 500 points – 500 rebounds club at BC; her 560 rebounds are third all-time in program history. During the 2005-06 season Queenan scored 497 points, tying her for 14th all-time in single-season scoring.
Queenan is a prominent name in the Boston College record book, and her hard work paid off when she was drafted 23rd in the 2006 WNBA draft by the New York Liberty. She would play two seasons – 2006 and 2008 – in the WNBA, as well as overseas from 2006-2014.
Currently, the former Eagle is pursuing her Masters degree in applied economics at Northeastern. While with the Huskies, her duties will include coordinating the women's basketball newsletter, organizing community service events, assisting with alumni outreach, video coordination, and assisting the day-to-day operations of the program.
"I'm very excited to be joining the Northeastern University community and the women's basketball program," Queenan said. "It's a terrific opportunity to work with an outstanding head coach at an outstanding University. I'm anxious to get started."
The Northeastern Huskies kick off the season on Friday, Nov. 14 against crosstown rival Boston University. It will be head coach Cole's first game at the helm of the Northeastern program. They have games scheduled against 2013 NCAA tournament qualifiers Marist and Albany The Huskies welcome Marist to the Cabot Center on Nov. 22 and will travel to Albany on Dec. 28.
Kelly Cole was named the sixth head coach of the Northeastern women's basketball program on June 9, 2014. After successful coaching stints at Harvard, Boston College, and Northwestern, she brings more than a decade of college basketball knowledge and experience to the bench.
