Anders Hoeyem, Class of 2003, has been elected to the Northeastern University Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of soccer.

Hoeyem, from Oslo, Norway, luckily played on a club team that had produced two former Northeastern stars. When the Husky coach Ed Matz called them, looking for more talent, they suggested Hoeyem. He had been selected as the club's Player of the Year 12 out of 14 years and was the only player to score more than 100 goals in a season.

Hoeyem's first season in 1998 was one of adjustment. Getting used to a new country, a new school, a new style of soccer and a soccer program that was going through a developmental stage, Hoeyem had two goals and two assists for six points as Northeastern went 7-11 overall and 1-8 in America East.

In his sophomore season Hoeyem blossomed and so did the Huskies. He scored seven goals and had 10 assists for 24 points. At that time, the 10 assists were the second most ever for a Husky. The team bounced back to 11-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the league and qualified for the tournament for the first time in three years. Hoeyem was voted All-America East second team and, more importantly, Academic All-America second team and America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

In his junior season he had one goal and 12 assists for 14 points. The 12 assists led the nation, marking the first time an NU athlete led an NCAA statistical category in soccer. The team finished at 10-8 and 7-2 and qualified again for the America East playoffs. Hoeyem was voted first-team All-Conference and team MVP. His feats in the classroom were becoming legendary as he was honored with a first-team Academic All-America selection.

His senior season of 2001 saw more success. He had two goals and two assists for six points. The team enjoyed its third straight winning campaign at 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the league. The Huskies went to the playoffs, defeating BU 2-1, then bowing to Towson in the final, 1-0. He was again selected All-America East first team and to the All-Tournament team, plus All-New England. He was also named the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-America for the second time. Hoeyem received the 2002 Gallagher Award as Northeastern's Outstanding Male Scholar-Athlete.

He graduated as the Huskies' third-highest goal scorer with 16 and third-highest point maker with 65. His assist mark of 33 is still tops in the NU archives. As a Business Administration major, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.95 GPA.
