Charles H. Diehl was elected to the Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport of basketball as a player and official.

As a junior he captained the 1948-49 Northeastern basketball team that enjoyed a 12-6 record and was undefeated in all of its home games. Between 1946 and 1950 he won four basketball letters and started in every game.

However, the 1951 graduate is more recognizable for his 27 distinguished years as a basketball official. He is easily one of the most televised NU alumnus, working for many years the championship NCAA and NIT games and the major collegiate and high school contests throughout the country. In 1973 Diehl was president of the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association. He was the New England Supervisor of Officials for the Eastern College Basketball Conference with the responsibility of supervising and assigning officials for all games played by colleges that comprised the conference. He was Interpreter and Clinician for Board 27 of the International Association Approved Basketball Officials, the largest officiating group in the world, of which he is past president. As a master rules interpreter he has run free clinics for officials and has conducted clinics throughout Europe as well. In addition to his officiating duties, Diehl also served as a Probation officer in the Somerville District Court.
