Frank J. Rando was elected to the hall of Fame for distinguished service to Northeastern as both an athlete and an alumnus.

One day in 1949 Rando, batting clean-up for the Northeastern baseball team, slugged a grand-slam, walloped two doubles, both with the bases loaded, and walked three times, crossing the plate several times himself. His teem needed every run, as Northeastern chipped Colby 11-10 that day. He led the team in batting that season with a .371 average, and won two games over Boston University, hitting a game-ending single in one affair and a triple in the other. He proved as great an asset with a hockey stick as with a bat, skating left wing on the Northeastern ice squad from 1946-49.

A 1951 graduate, Rando served as president of his class from 1956-61 and as president of the Varsity Club in 1960-62. He was the Alumni Association president in 1967 and 1968 and is credited with founding "Friends of NU Baseball." In 1973, he was awarded Northeastern's 75th Anniversary Outstanding Alumni Award.

A 1943 graduate of Roslindale High School, Rando captained the football, hockey and baseball teams, making All Boston squads in football and hockey and the All Scholastic Boston Herald and Boston Globe teams in baseball. His senior year, he batted an astounding .506.
