James H. Walsh, IV was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sports of football and ice hockey.
Walsh was a superb middle linebacker and punter in football and an all star defenseman in hockey. Acclaimed as one of the fiercest hitters in eastern college football, Walsh was a walk-on freshman who went on to call the defensive signals for four seasons at middle linebacker. As a junior, he recorded nine interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He was also an exceptional punter, with 40 punts with negative return yardage. A senior co-captain, Walsh was a second team All New England pick at linebacker. In hockey, Walsh was a rugged defenseman with a blurry shot from the point. He was one of the ECAC's premier blueliners and made the prestigious Pre-Olympic Sports Festival Team in Colorado Springs in 1979. He played well enough in the Rocky Mountains to entice Buffalo General Manager Scotty Bowman to offer him a three-year contract. Walsh went on to play five seasons of professional hockey with the Buffalo Sabres, Hartford Whalers and Los Angeles Kings organizations.
A success on and off the playing surface, Walsh is a reflection of one of the most respected businesses in Newton, Mass. He is currently an officer in the family owned Walsh Brothers Construction, a 90 year old firm founded by Jim's great grandfather and grand uncle. Jim is also the current president of Northeastern's Varsity Club.
