Joseph M. Chrusz, who passed away September 21, 1966, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contributions to Northeastern both as an athlete and an alumnus.
Chrusz started at tackle for the Huskies in 1933, '34 and '35, and also played baseball during his sophomore and junior seasons. After graduating in 1937 with a degree in business, he became one of the most loyal and ardent supporters of Northeastern athletics. Chrusz captained the unbeaten 1935 team that enjoyed a 5-0-3 record and was selected to play on the New England football all-star team his senior year. The All-Stars faced Notre Dame in an indoor game at Boston Garden. Chrusz came to Northeastern after a stellar high school career in Hackettstown, New Jersey, where he was named All-State his senior year. He played for Al McCoy, the man who eventually became Northeastern's first football coach in 1933. After a year at Blair Academy, where he was also named All-State in New Jersey, Chrusz followed McCoy to Boston to play for the Huskies.
After graduation, Chrusz became one of the original founders of the Varsity Club at Northeastern. A successful owner of his own automobile dealership, he was also a member of the Winchester Country Club, Arlington Kiwanis and the New England Automobile Dealers Association. Along with being one of the founding fathers of the Varsity Club, he was a member of the Husky Associates.
