Kevin Hopkins (class of 1986) was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Northeastern indoor and outdoor track teams between 1982 and 1985.

A Providence, Rhode Island native, Hopkins was a state champion in outdoor track at Our Lady of Providence School before arriving at Northeastern. He brought his success in the high jump with him to Huntington Avenue, where his outdoor record of 7’1’’ from the New England Championships in 1983 still stands today.

Hopkins also held the school record in the indoor high jump (7’0’’), which he set at the Greater Boston Championship on Feb. 5, 1984, until 1990. It now ranks third all-time at Northeastern.

Hopkins placed in the New England Championships and IC4A Championships in each of his four years at Northeastern, including a third place finish at a 1985 IC4A outdoor track meet at Penn State. He also received the Alumni Perpetual Track Trophy for his accomplishments during the 1985 outdoor track season.

Following his time at Northeastern, Hopkins earned a master’s degree in administration of justice from Salve Regina University, and went on to take second place in the high jump at the 1992 International Police Olympics.
