Kym Cameron was elected to the Hall of Fame for her accomplishments in the sport of basketball.
Cameron, a top scoring and rebounding presence in women's eastern collegiate basketball in the early eighties, was a dynamic player from both the perimeter and inside the paint. Cameron was instrumental in accelerating NU's rise to a competitive Division I program. A three-time captain, Cameron helped NU to a 64-39 mark during her career and three post season appearances. In her final year, 1983-84, the Huskies finished 19-8 ( setting a new school record for wins in a season) and advanced all the way to the ECAC Championship game. Cameron earned Kodak Division I All-America honors as both a junior and senior. She had polished all-around skills and graduated in 1985 as the school's all-time leading scorer (1,364 points) and rebounder (657 boards). Cameron was the first woman in NU history to eclipse to 1,000-point barrier and is currently the University's fourth all-time scorer and its fifth all-time rebounder. Cameron capped her senior season by accepting the Northeastern Black Alumni Athlete of the Year Award. She was also a player who elevated her game in the face of adversity. Diagnosed as a diabetic after her sophomore year, she proceeded with her intense academic/athletic agenda to reach new levels of achievement in both the classroom and on the hardwood.
Kym is a successful product of Northeastern's lauded Co-operative Education, as she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy.
