Lawrence Gluckman was elected to the Hall of Fame for his achievements in collegiate and amateur rowing.
A stranger to rowing when he entered Northeastern in 1964, Gluckman was voted the Most Improved Oarsman as a sophomore, the Most Valuable Oarsman as a junior and was selected for captain as a senior. As the 1968 captain his shell lost only to Harvard in the regular rowing season and finished fourth in both the Eastern Sprints and I.R.A. regattas.
He was a member of the 1976 United States Olympic team and has been a member of the U.S. rowing team at the World Championships in 1973 and 1975. He was also a member of the U.S. National Champion four without coxswain in 1967 and 1968. In 1967 that same shell won a gold medal at the Pan American Games, a silver medal at the European Championships, and a bronze medal at the European Championships. In 1968 it was the runner-up in the Olympic Trials. He won a gold medal in the coxed pair at the 1969 Maccabiah Games.
He was a member of the 1973 Northeastern University Rowing Association four with coxswain that won a gold medal at the Nottingham International Invitational. That shell also became the first American shell to win the Prince Phillip Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta.
Gluckman, who holds a masters degree from Columbia University, was the head coach of rowing at Columbia in 1971 and a Peace Corp Volunteer in Brazil in 1974.
