Thomas L. Mortimer was elected to the Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of track
Mortimer was the outstanding middle distance runner in New England throughout his era. Tom followed his brother Frank to Northeastern, where Frank had already established a tradition of Mortimer dominance.
Mortimer graduated with six New England titles and five Greater Boston Collegiate crowns to his credit, plus Northeastern records for the 1000 and the 1500. He set the indoor 1000 record with a blistering time of 2:08.99, and then lowered the outdoor 1500 meter mark to just 3:44.84. Mortimer also enjoyed a number of All New England accolades and All America honors. During Mortimer's time, the Huskies won 22 indoor meets while losing only one, and would go 21-2 outdoors. At dual meets, NU was 43-3, and the Huskies won five Greater Boston and five New England Championships. Tom was a top point producer, always running two races and a relay. Additionally, as a senior, Tom was a captain for all three track seasons, the winner of the Shea Award as MVP and awarded the Alumni Track Trophy as the Track Man of the Year.
Mortimer is currently the vice president and portfolio manager for Fleet Bank and resides in Haverhill with wife Katina Childs, NU Class of '80, and daughters Courtney, Tatum and Heather.
