William Lee Carter was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sports of ice hockey and baseball.

A business graduate from the Class of 1932, Carter was the first Northeastern athlete to be elected captain of two sports teams when he led the hockey squad in 1931-32 and then captained the baseball team in the spring of that year. He actually acted as captain in the 1930-31 hockey season due to a preseason injury to the elected leader. A holder of a masters degree from Harvard, Carter started at wing for Northeastern's first hockey team in 1929-30. The next year he led the team in scoring with 14 goals, and repeated the feat during his senior campaign with 11 tallies. With his sparkling play, Carter led the 1931-32 team to the Small College New England Championship with a 6-1 record.

After shedding the winter pads, Carter played every game for the baseball team at shortstop from 1929-32. In his sophomore year he led the team in hitting with a .345 average and was runner up in batting two years later with a .339 average. Carter went on to play semi-pro baseball for teams in Needham, Newton, Wellesley and Millis and he also played for the Bay State Hockey League titlist Employees Liability Insurance Company.
