Senior swimming and diving captain Kathrine Fugge has been named Student Athlete of the Week, Northeastern announced Tuesday. Fugge earns the honor after she took home three events and placed second as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team in a home meet against Boston College last Friday.
It is the second consecutive week in which Fugge has earned a victory in multiple events. In the team's opening meet, her wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle propelled the squad to two victories over Maine and Central Connecticut State. Against BC, Fugge again took the 100 (53.06) and 200 freestyle (1:55.00) but also earned a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (58.33) and a second place finish with the 400 freestyle relay team (3:38.58).
Named to the All-CAA team following the 2007-08 season, Fugge has been a strong competitor since first entering the pool for Northeastern. Her illustrious career has seen her break three individual Huskies records and be a part of four relay records. Fugge was also a three-year All-American honoree while competing in high school.
Fugge and the Huskies return to the pool in a pod meet at Old Dominion with James Madison, Drexel, and William and Mary this weekend, Nov. 6-8. It will be the only CAA meet of the season.
