Freshman Crystal Poland of the Northeastern University field hockey team has been named Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the athletic department this morning. The Crofton, British Columbia native scored five goals and added two assists in a pair of victories over the past week.
Poland started the week strong with a hat trick against Harvard on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The freshman also added two assists in the game, helping NU to a 6-0 rout of the Crimson. Poland added to her terrific week with a two-goal performance against New Hampshire on Alumnae Day at Sweeney Field on Sunday, Oct. 4 (a 3-2 NU win).
Poland has twice been named CAA Rookie of the Week and leads the Huskies in goals (10), points (24), shots (51) and shots on goal (38).
The BC native joins junior Pam Aldridge as the second NU field hockey player to earn Student-Athlete of the Week honors this year.
Poland and the Huskies (7-4, 1-1 CAA) return to action on Friday against Towson at Sweeney Field at 2 p.m.
