Freshman Devin Petta has been named the Northeastern Student-Athlete of the Week for 9/29, the school announced today. Petta is the second women's soccer player this season to receive the honor. The distinction comes among a number of others this week, as Petta was named Rookie of the Week by the CAA (for the second time this season) as well as to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Women's College Soccer Team of the Week, where she stands among peers from schools such as Florida, LSU and Notre Dame.
Petta scored seven points (3-1-7) over the course of two CAA games last week. Versus Drexel, she scored a natural hat trick, which included the game winner, in an elapsed time of 4:04. It was the the fastest hat trick ever recorded by a Northeastern player. The 26 seconds that seperated her first (82:58) and second (83:24) tally made them the school's fastest-ever two goals scored by an individual.
After nine games, Petta leads the Huskies in all scoring categories, including goals (7), assists (3) and game-winning goals (3). She also leads the team in shots (26) and shots goal (16).
Petta and the Huskies will continue their CAA conference action with a roadtrip this week. The team will visit Towson on Friday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m., and then travel to take on George Mason in Fairfax, Va., on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. For live stats and updates, check GoNU.com.
