Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon has been named Northeastern's Student Athlete of the Week. Gordon recorded back-to-back shutouts on the season's opening weekend, including seven saves in the 2-0 victory over Big East opponent Cincinnati and three saves in the 3-0 victory over Longwood.
At last week's Nike Invitational, in Athens, Ga., Gordon thwarted ACC opponent Clemson with eight saves in the Huskies' 2-1 win. The tournament's second game against host Georgia proved to be Northeastern's first loss of the season, and Gordon had six saves in the close 1-0 game.
Thus far, Gordon has played every minute for the Huskies. In four games (3-1-0) she has allowed only two goals, for an outstanding 0.50 goals against average. She has made 24 saves on the season and currently rests with a .923 save percentage.
Gordon's two shutouts this season have advanced her career total to nine, which is five away from Northeastern's all-time career record. Last season, as a freshman, she broke the single-season minutes played record with 2173 and tied the single-season shutout record with seven. Gordon was named to the CAA All-Tournament team for her efforts on the way to Northeastern's first CAA championship. She was also one of two Huskies named to the preseason All-CAA team last month.
Gordon and the women's soccer team next game is at New Hampshire this Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m.
