Sophomore diver Rachael Peterson has been named Northeastern Student-Athlete of the week after her winning 1-meter dive (246.90) against Vermont Saturday Jan. 23 qualified her for the NCAA Zone A Championships. Peterson also took the 3-meter title as well with a score of 246.90.
At the NCAA Zone A Championships, Peterson will also be allowed to participate in the 3-meter and platform dives, in addition to the 1-meter.
Peterson has had a successful 2009-10 campaign for the Huskies, taking individual honors five times. Including her two wins against Vermont, Peterson emerged victorious in the 3-meter (227.31) against Massachusetts, the 3-meter (235.35) against Boston College, and the 1-meter (212.50) in the season-opening tri-meet against Central Connecticut State and Maine.
In just two years at Northeastern, the Wellesley, Mass. native has had eight career individual victories. In addition to her five victories in the 2009-2010 campaign, Peterson has also taken the 3-meter dive (229.35) Oct. 17, 2008 against Boston College, the 3-meter dive (232.60) Oct. 25 2008 in the tri-meet vs Central Connecticut State and Maine, and the 3-meter dive (248.25) Jan. 24, 2009 against Vermont.
Peterson will participate in the NCAA Zone A Championships March 12-14 at Rutgers.
The Northeastern Swimming and Diving team currently sits at 5-5. Their next meet is at Siena, Jan. 30 at noon.
