Freshman forward Robbie Vrolyk (Boylston, Mass.) of the men’s hockey team has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring three goals in the weekend sweep of Massachusetts.

The rookie’s first tally of the weekend came on Friday night at the Mullins Center and iced the Huskies first win of the series. With Northeastern leading, 1-0, Vrolyk streaked down the left side of the ice and fired a wristshot past UMass’ Dan Meyers at 14:59 of the third.

The following night, Vrolyk’s encore included his first-career multi-point game. The Boylston, Mass. native picked up where he left off and scored the first goal of the game to set the precedent. Early in the third period, Vrolyk added his second-career powerplay goal. Vrolyk’s lamplighter marked his first-career game-winning goal for the Huskies.

Through 28 games, Vrolyk has tallied 10 points, including six goals and four assists.

The speedy winger has significantly affected Northeastern’s winning record this year. In games when Vrolyk contributes a point, the Huskies are 7-2 and following a positive plus/minus rating, Northeastern is 6-1.

Vrolyk is the hockey team’s second delegate to receive Student-Athlete of the Week honors. Senior Kyle Kraemer received the award back on Nov. 24.

Vrolyk and the rest of the Huskies are in the midst of a season-best four-game winning streak along with a victorious five-game stretch in Hockey East play. Through last weekend’s contests, Northeastern is currently tied for the third-longest unbeaten streak in the country.

A crucial series with #8/9 Boston College is next on the docket for Northeastern. In the first meeting of the season, the Eagles got the better of NU with a 5-1 win on Nov. 7 at Conte Forum. Friday’s matchup marks Boston College’s first appearance in Matthews Arena this season. The highly anticipated affair is already SOLD OUT with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Northeastern and Boston College will close out the regular-season series to a national viewing audience on ESPNU. The game on Feb. 21st at Conte Forum is scheduled for 3 p.m.
