Jeff Pellegrini joined the Northeastern staff as an assistant coach in August 2012, before being promoted to associate head coach in April 2014. Pellegrini, who brings coaching experience from all aspects of the sport, joined the Huskies after spending the 2011-12 season at Harvard.
In his first season on Huntington Ave., Pellegrini helped lead the Huskies to their winningest season since 2001-02, the program's 16th Beanpot championship and the team's second appearance in the Hockey East championship game in the past three seasons. In 2015-16, Pellegrini helped Northeastern set a record for most wins in a season (28) as the Huskies earned the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA tournament.Â
Pellegrini has served as an assistant coach at both the men’s and women’s collegiate levels since 2004, resulting in six conference championship appearances and four league titles. At Harvard, he assisted in recruiting, as well as the planning and execution of daily practices, game day bench responsibilities video breakdown and scouting reports for a team that finished with a 22-9-1 record.
Prior to Harvard, Pellegrini was an assistant coach of the Bowdoin men’s ice hockey team from 2009-11. While serving as the recruiting and video coordinator, he helped the Polar Bears to the 2011 NESCAC Championship. In addition, he coached the top-ranked power play unit in the nation as Bowdoin was ranked as high as fourth in the nation during the 2010-11 season. He also developed and ran off-ice fitness and strength and conditioning programs, organized fundraisers and community service activities, and guided six seniors to professional contracts.
Pellegrini’s introduction to women’s ice hockey came in 2008 when he served as the inaugural head coach of the Boston Shamrocks. In his time with the Shamrocks, he guided all seven graduating players to college hockey careers, and reached the playoffs in the JWHL.
Pellegrini has also had stints at UMass Boston and Nichols College as an assistant coach for men’s ice hockey. In three seasons at UMass Boston (2006-09), he recruited and developed players who led the team to its most successful season since 1981, and also had the second ranked recruiting class in the nation in 2007-08.
Pellegrini is a graduate of UMass Boston, where he received a degree in Community Studies. He currently resides in Stow, Mass.
