Vermont 2, Northeastern 1

BURLINGTON, VT - Jamie Farrell scored two goals to give Vermont a 2-1 win over league-leading Northeastern in an America East men's soccer game at Centennial Field. Vermont also stopped a six-game conference-winning streak for the first place Huskies (10-5, 6-2).

The Catamounts had the upper hand in the early going with several good opportunities and Farrell opened the scoring in the game's 12th minute. Unmarked in the goal crease, he nodded home a perfect right-to-left cross from Tim Parisi. Finishing a long run with a 15-yard blast, Farrell made it 2-0 with his team-high fifth goal of the season in the 34th minute.

Northeastern began to apply more pressure after halftime and Chris Beston put them on the scoreboard in the 67th minute. In a scramble after a corner kick by Antha Kirkopooulos, Beston punched the ball just over the goal line to make it 2-1.

UVM goalie David Sullivan, who has allowed just four goals in the last five games after allowing 10 in the three previous contests, made six stops, including two game-savers in the second half. Allan Lewis made three saves for the Huskies.
