Northeastern 1, Delaware 0

BROOKLINE, MA - The Huskies knocked off Delaware 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field to clinch the fourth seed in the America East conference tournament and eliminate the Blue Hens from postseason play. Senior defender Chris Beston scored the game-winner for the Huskies in the 25th minute off an Antha Kirkopoulos corner kick. The Blue Hens outshot NU 8-3 in the first half, but managed just one shot in the second half of play. Their best chance came early on in the match when Jeff Martell hit a shot past Husky goalkeeper Allan Lewis, but Ryan McKibbin came up with a key defender save to keep the ball out of the net. The Huskies took control of the game in the second half, outshooting the Blue Hens 11-1. They had several excellent opportunities to add an insurance goal, the best coming on a shot by Phonethip Ketnouvong with under two minutes left in the game that hit the inside of the post and trickled across the goal mouth untouched. Kyle Haynes recorded five saves in net for Delaware and Allan Lewis had five for Northeastern.
