Northeastern 1, Holy Cross 0

BROOKLINE, MA - Northeastern defeated Holy Cross 1-0 Tuesday night at Parsons Field to snap a two game losing streak and improve to 4-2 on the season.

Husky midfielder Ben Collins netted the game's only goal, his first of the season and eighth of his career, in the 38th minute of play. Fellow midfielder Trond Olsen got a head on an Anthanasios Kirkopoulos corner kick and redirected it to the near post where Collins was able to get a solid foot on the ball and send a low, driving shot past diving Crusader keeper Kevin Baker. Both Kirkopoulos and Olsen were credited with assists on the goal.

Northeastern dominated the game from the start, blasting shot after shot at the Crusader goal, but consistently missing high and wide of their target. The Huskies outshot the visitors 22-7 with Kirkopoulos and Olsen adding five shots each to that total. NU got a scare in the last 10 minutes of play, however, as the Crusaders put the pressure on and had several great opportunities to add an equalizer. But NU keeper Allan Lewis came up with a couple big saves down the stretch and the defense was able to fight off the late surge to come away with the win. Holy Cross keeper Kevin Baker recorded nine saves in the losing effort, seven of which were in the second half. Lewis had four saves for NU while recording his third shutout of the season. NU was without the services of two key starters in tonight's game. Senior defender Chris Beston did not play due to a coaches suspension while sophomore midfielder Oumar Thiam was suspended for one game stemming from the red card he received Sept. 17 against Harvard.

The Huskies have another week off before traveling across town to visit America East Conference rival Boston University Tuesday Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
