Northeastern 3 Old Dominion 2

The Huskies defeated Old Domimion 3-2 Friday to start the season with a 3-0 record for the first time in school history.

Both teams went scoreless in the first half, but made up for it in the second where NU and Old Dominion combined for five goals. The Monarchs got the scoring started in the 51st minute when Atilla Vendegh scored from 10 yards out. Northeastern answered right back less than two minutes later when senior defender Chris Beston tied the game, scoring his first goal of the season off a deflection in front of the goal. Newcomer Anthanasios Kirkopoulos was credited with the assist, his first in a Husky uniform.

Vendegh netted his second goal of the day for the Monarchs in the 64th minute to give Old Dominion a 2-1 advantage, though only for a brief time. The Huskies answered the call once again as Anders Hoyem tied the game less than three minutes later on an assist from Phonethip Ketnouvong. Chris Beston then netted the game-winning goal for the Huskies in the 71st minute, his second of the day, on a strike from 12 yards out. Kirkopoulos recorded his second assist of the day and of his career on the goal.

The Huskies managed to get past the Monarchs despite being outshot 16-12 in the match. Keeper Allan Lewis recorded five saves on the afternoon. The two goals scored by Old Dominion were the first given up by Lewis this season. Trond Olsen did not play in the match, serving a mandatory one game suspension for receiving two yellow cards Sept. 2 against Duke.
