Northeastern 2, Boston University 1

Northeastern won its fifth straight game Wednesday night 2-1 over Boston University at Parsons Field. The Huskies jumped out with two goals in the first half and held on in the second, to improve to 8-6-2 overall and 5-1 in the America East.

The current conference Player of the Week, sophomore Michael Cipriano, put NU on the board just 7:02 into the game. Cipriano took a pass from junior Bennie Prueske and blasted the ball to the far post past BU goalie Matt Smith, who got a piece of it, but not enough to stop it.

Later in the first half, Jay Hanson sent a long lead pass in which Cipriano gathered and dribbled up the field. In almost the exact same play as earlier, except with the roles reversed, Cipriano found Prueske, who hammered it home from the almost identical spot as Cipriano had, to put NU up 2-0.

"This was a big game for us with a lot of emotion," said NU head coach Ed Matz. "We came out very strong and capitalized on our early opportunities."

Boston University controlled play early in the second half, keeping the ball in the NU end of the field. The Terriers would finally capitalize on one of their 10 corner kicks at the 69:52 mark. Senior Anthony D'Angelo sent one past NU goalie Sergio Saccoccio off a feed from junior Andrew Dorman, to make it 2-1. BU looked to have tied the game with just 1:53 left, but the goal was disallowed because of a handball in the box.

"This was just one of our typical scrappy games," Matz added.

Smith made two saves on the night, while Saccoccio recorded six. Northeastern is now 5-1-1 at Parsons Field this season and 12-2-1 over the last two years. The Huskies will return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Albany.
