Freshman striker Nick Leddy scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes and 12 seconds remaining to lead Albany to a 3-2 America East victory over Northeastern on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Varsity Field. The Great Danes, who remained tied with New Hampshire for third place in the conference standings, moved one step closer to their first America East postseason tournament berth.
Northeastern (8-7-2, 5-2-0) took a 2-1 lead, when Atha Kirkopoulos scored his seventh goal of the season off a direct kick from outside the box at 77:18.
Albany (9-5-2, 4-1-2) answered with a pair of goals 27 seconds apart. Steven Procknal, who had two goals and one assist, left-footed a crossing pass from Tim Roty inside the near post to draw his team even at 81:15. Leddy then scored from point-blank range after gathering in Procknal's cross from the right side.
Trevor Serraro made eight saves for the Great Danes, who have reached the nine-win mark for the first time as a Div. I program. Tom Heimreid scored the Huskies' first goal, his second of the year, while goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio stopped seven shots.
Northeastern will wrap up the season on Sunday at home, when the Huskies host Binghamton starting at 3:30 p.m.
