RALEIGH, N.C. – Northeastern's Petter Starnas connected on a goal in the 67th minute of action as the Huskies upended the 13th-ranked Duke men's soccer team, 1-0, to win the Adidas Wolfpack Invitational on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C. NU (2-0) defeated tournament host North Carolina State, 2-0, on Saturday in the Huskies' season opener.
The Blue Devils (1-1) outshot the Huskies 15-11 on Sunday, but NU got the only goal it needed from Starnas, his first of the season.
The lone goal came as the Huskies got by the Blue Devils in the box and Starnas found the back right of the net off an assist by Phonethip Ketnouvong. Duke couldn't take advantage of two indirect kicks in the final seven minutes. At the 84:28 mark, Northeastern's Trond Olsen received his second yellow card and was removed from the game. The Blue Devils had a few more chances to score with a man advantage, but couldn't get it past the Huskies goalkeeper, Allan Lewis, who recorded his second straight shutout.
