Northeastern 2, Oneonta State 1

Sophomore Michael Cipriano scored the game winner in overtime, as Northeastern defeated Oneonta State 2-1, Friday night at Parsons Field.

Oneonta State got on the board first in the 29th minute of play, as Ryan Rummery gathered a loose ball, beat a defender one-on-one and put it past NU goalie Sergio Saccoccio. Northeastern would strike back just under four minutes later, when Atha Kirkopoulos found senior LeRoy Watkins on a cross in front of the net. Watkins controlled the ball and hammered in the tying goal in a very physical first half.

The two teams would play a scoreless second half and head to overtime. In the 94th minute of action, Jay Hanson had a long pass down the sideline to a racing Cipriano. Cipriano then lofted a shot over the goalie Jack Potter, who was coming out of the net to give the Huskies their second win of the season.

"I thought that tonight was one of the first times this year that we have played a complete game from start to finish," head coach Ed Matz said. "When we were down 1-0, we showed a lot of composure and didn't quit."

NU goal keeper Sergio Saccoccio had four saves in net for the Huskies. Northeastern will look to carry the momentum into Sunday, when they host Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m. at Parsons Field.
