Northeastern 5, Sacred Heart 0

Northeastern blanked visiting Sacred Heart 5-0 on Sunday at Parsons Field. Junior Bennie Prueske scored twice, while Nate Houghton and Michael Cipriano eached chipped in a goal and an assist.

The Huskies dominated the game right from the start, as they outshot the visiting Pioneers 23-5. In the 10th minute of action, Andrew Hickey lofted a long lead pass into the right corner that senior LeRoy Watkins would run down and cross in front of the net. A racing Cipriano took the cross and gave NU the only goal the Huskies would need.

Prueske would tally the next two goals, to give NU a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. His first was set up as Houghton drew two defenders, leaving Prueske all alone. He then beat SHU goalie Jason Roder one-on-one. Cipriano fed Prueske for his second goal in the first half.

The Huskies just kept firing in the second half, and Houghton would benefit, picking up a loose ball rebound and hammering it home for his fourth goal of the season. Freshman Andrew Babicz wrapped up the scoring outburst, tallying his first career goal on his only shot of the game off of an assist from fellow freshman Jeff Gannon.

"It was good today that we took care of business. It was nice for us to be able to put together four straight solid halves, including the Oneonta State match," Coach Ed Matz said.

Sergio Saccoccio and Helder Pires combined on the shutout in net, raising the Huskies' record to 3-3-2 on the season. Northeastern will travel to Holy Cross on Tuesday for its next game (4 p.m.).
