Northeastern 3, Stony Brook 0

Box Score The men's soccer team won its second game in a row, getting goals from junior midfielder Joe Parrish, senior midfielder Atha Kirkopoulos and freshman midfielder Daniel Ivec in a foul-filled 3-0 win over Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Parsons Field.

The Huskies improve to 5-4-2 and 2-1-1 in the America East, while the Seawolves fall to 2-7-1 overall, 0-1-0 in conference play.

Parrish broke the scoreless tie at 43:13 of the first half with his first goal of the season. He headed in a direct kick off the foot of sophomore midfielder Tom Heimreid.

The next two Husky goals came within less than two minutes of each other. Kirkopoulos dribbled down the left side, put the ball between the defender's legs and shot far post, scoring his third goal of the season at 50:42.

Shortly thereafter, sophomore midfielder Jeff Gannon dribbled along the endline and sent a cross in front of the goal to Ivec, who one-timed it in for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The match was very physical, especially toward the end. Each team was issued three yellow cards, while Stony Brook committed 21 fouls to NU's 17.

Sophomore keeper Sergio Saccoccio made three saves en route to registering his fourth shutout of the season.

Northeastern heads to Newton Campus Soccer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 8 for a showdown with Boston College. It is a rematch of last year's NCAA second-round game in which the Eagles defeated the Huskies, 2-1.
