Box Score The Huskies battled hard for 110 minutes to tie Drexel 1-1 at Parsons Field on Sunday, Oct. 2. Sophomore forward Greg Kilkenny scored Northeastern's lone goal adding to his season total of three goals.
NU jumped on the board just a little over three minutes into the game when Sophomore Jonathan Show forwarded a long ball to Kilkenny. Kilkenny fought past the Drexel defender to lash a left-footed shot of 10 yards out that hit the post and went in.
Drexel had multiple opportunities in the first half having two open shots go wide around the 20-minute mark. The Dragons came out of the locker room at the half and put pressure on the Husky defense quickly from the start, creating miss opportunities for a goal.
The Dragons evened up the score in 76th minute when junior Justin Bowers crossed a ball to senior captain Joe Banks who headed it up while an NU defender redirected it past a diving Sergio Saccoccio.
The Huskies dodged a bullet with under a minute left to play in regulation when the ball was open in front of NU's net and finally was cleared out by freshman Andrew Konopelsky.
In the two overtime periods, both teams put slight pressure on each other without either getting a shot on net. The game was plagued with a combined 42 fouls, NU having 23 and Drexel notching 19. Northeastern midfielder Tom Heimreid and DU players Andy Schneider and Derek Bickford were issued yellow cards during the match.
The Huskies had a 10-4 edge on corners. Drexel keeper Nick Macri managed to stop four while Saccoccio made one save on the day.
NU hosts a pair of CAA games next weekend at Parsons Field. The first is against George Mason on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. and the other on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. against Towson.
