Box Score The Northeastern men's soccer team finished the year with a 2-0 loss to Hofstra on Friday night. The Huskies were playing for pride when earlier George Mason defeated Towson in double overtime for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Colonial tournament, ending NU's chances of postseason play.
Hofstra finished the season 12-4-3 and 7-2-2 in the conference to receive the second seed in the postseason.
Huskies head coach Brian Ainscough finished his first season at the helm at 3-9-6 and 2-4-5 in the CAA.
The Pride jumped on the board just a little over two minutes in when Chris Cox scored on a penalty kick.
20 minutes later Hofstra added some insurance when Michael Todd took a pass from Brian Sosa and streaked thirty yards up the field nailing a shot in the lower right past NU senior keeper Sergio Saccoccio.
Northeastern had two scoring chances in the second half. The first was a senior Tom Heimreid header of a corner in the 57th minute. The other senior Jay Betley's indirect kick in the final minute. Both were saved by Hofstra goalkeeper Matthias Gumbrecht who recorded his fifth straight shutout of the year.
Northeastern's Darryl Brack and Heimreid and Hofstra's Nick Leddy and Arman Ossoy each received yellow cards. The Huskies were outshot 12-10.
Saccoccio made four stops and ends his Husky career leading in almost every category there is including saves and minutes played. Seniors Tom Heimreid, Jay Betley, David Downing and Jeff Gannon all wrapped up their Husky careers.
