Box Score Holy Cross (5-2-0) handed the Northeastern men's soccer team (1-4-1) its third loss in a row, winning, 3-0. Senior goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio became Northeastern's all-time leader in minutes, surpassing Allen Lewis's record of 6,155 minutes.
Saccoccio moved into second place in all-time saves with 277 career stops. He needs only 14 more to become the career leader.
The Crusaders jumped to a quick lead in the 15th minute, when senior Anthony Cinelli rifled a shot from the left corner of the box for his first goal of the season.
In the second half, the Huskies had multiple scoring opportunities they could not capitalize on. NU had two close calls, one was a senior Tom Heimreid header that went in but NU was called offsides and the goal was revoked. The other was a saved Andrew Konopelsky shot towards the end of the game.
Holy Cross added two more goals, the first coming in the 67th minute on a junior Josh Trott breakaway. The second came when junior Andrew Lunney found sophomore Marsalis Beckford open at the head of the box. Beckford drove into open space for a shot, his first tally of the season.
The Crusaders senior keeper Richard Whipple stopped nine shots for his third shutout of the year. Saccoccio had five saves.
The Huskies outshot Holy Cross on goal 9-5 with an advantage on corners 6-4.
NU's next game is against former America East foe New Hampshire at Parsons Field on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
