Box Score The men's soccer team fell to George Mason 1-0 in its first CAA contest on Friday night at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots broke the scoreless deadlock at 54:47 of the second half, as Adam Lobene capitalized on a penalty kick. Northeastern fell to 2-6-1 (0-1-0 CAA) this season and 0-1-1 all-time against George Mason (5-2-0, 1-0-0 CAA). The Huskies have now dropped six of their last seven games.
The Patriots controlled the game early on Friday, taking a 7-3 shot advantage in the second half. It wasn't until the second frame that George Mason finally managed to beat NU freshman keeper Joe Monthey.
At 54:47, Adam Lobene was awarded a penalty kick and he made the most of the opportunity, scoring the lone goal of the game.
George Mason outshot NU 15-8 and 5-2 in shots on goal. The Patriots also finished the contest with a 6-5 advantage on corners.
Sean Kelley, who has collected back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week honors, added another shutout to his resume after making two saves in the game. Joe Monthey, starting for the second straight game for NU, made four saves, all in the second half.
The Huskies will look to snap their losing streak on Sunday in their second CAA tilt of the week against Towson (5-1-2, 1-0-1). NU and Towson played to a 1-1 double overtime tie last year at Parsons Field. Sunday's game will begin at 1 p.m.
