Box Score The men's soccer team suffered its second straight loss in a 1-0 setback against Brown University Sunday afternoon at Stevenson Field. Senior Ian Premo provided the game-winning goal in the 56th minute to the lead the Bears to their second win of the weekend. Northeastern fell to 2-2 this season and 0-6 all-time against Brown.
Both teams had trouble getting any momentum going early due to the rainy conditions, and the game remained scoreless at the close of the first half. But just 10 minutes into the second frame, the Bears offense clicked. Freshman T.J. Thompson's shot from just inside the box was stopped by NU freshman goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat, but Ian Premo pounced on the rebound and deposited the ball into the back of the net.
Premo's goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Bears continued to pressure the Huskies while allowing very few scoring chances. Northeastern managed just three shots in the second half.
The Bears outshot the Huskies 16-6 and held a10-5 advantage on corners. Despite the loss, Mahmoud Talaat was solid in goal while making nine saves. Sophomore Darren Howerton stopped three shots in the win.
The Huskies have some time to regroup before facing Harvard on Fri., Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. The teams have not met since Sept. 17, 2001, when the Crimson won 3-0 at home. Harvard leads the all-time series 4-1.
