Box Score Greg Kilkenny scored two goals for the Huskies but it wasn't enough to get them past James Madison on Sunday as the Dukes handed Northeastern a 3-2 loss.
Northeastern had won three straight games before the match, including its first road victory of the season against Virginia Commonwealth on Friday. But the Dukes two late goals prevented the Huskies from winning their fourth in a row.
The first half was a defensive battle until Stefan Durr put a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat to give the Dukes the 1-0 halftime lead.
At first, the second half seemed to belong to the Huskies, with senior forward Greg Kilkenny scoring two goals less than three minutes apart. His first came six minutes into the half when he came upon a loose ball in front of the net and eluded Duke goalkeeper Ken Manahan to tie it up. Three minutes later Kilkenny took a cross for sophomore midfielder Alexander Volk from three yards out and put it in for the 2-1 lead.
Six minutes after Northeastern took the lead it gave it right back when CJ Sapong headed in a free kick past Talaat. Scott Partridge replaced Talaat for the last 12 minutes of the game, but the move didn't work as Lasse Kokko knocked in a game-winner off a throw-in with four minutes left for James Madison.
Kilkenny now has four goals on the season and leads the team in points with 15. Volk's assist was his first of the season.
The Huskies fall to 5-8 with the loss and 3-3 in the CAA, while James Madison improves to 4-7-3 and 3-3 in the CAA. The Huskies are the only team in the conference that is yet to tie a game.
Northeastern returns to action on Friday against Delaware at 7 p.m. in Newark, Delaware.
