Box Score The Northeastern men's soccer team dropped its third game of the season on Friday, a 1-0 loss to Providence at Glay Field.
The Huskies battled through a scoreless game until Friar freshman Matt Marcin found the net in the 74th minute. Marcin came upon a loose ball and sent it into the lower right corner of the goal.
Northeastern suffers its third straight loss, as the team is still looking for the first goal of the season. Senior forward Greg Kilkenny, who managed to get off four shots, two on goal, fired a shot in the second half that was deflected by a Friar defender and just missed wide. Later in the half, Kilkenny broke away from the defense, but Providence goalkeeper Timothy Murray halted his attempt with a nice save.
Besides the late goal, NU sophomore goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat put together a strong performance, finishing the game with seven saves.
Northeastern will host Maine in the home opener on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Parsons Field. The game will be available to see on GoNU.TV
