Box Score The Huskies saw a late goal from Mike Kennedy matched when Towson's Matt Beckman scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute to tie NU 1-1 in two overtimes at the Towson Center Soccer Complex Wednesday afternoon. The two teams eventually ended the game in a tie after two extra periods.
The tie extends the Huskies' unbeaten streak to eight games (4-0-4) and brings their record to 5-2-5, 3-0-2 CAA. The Tigers record goes to 6-3-2, 2-1-2 CAA on the season.
The Huskies were without leading scorer Lewis Ehrlich, so they called on Kennedy along with freshman forward Josh Semerene and junior Matthew Laning to shoulder the offensive load. The young forwards responded well, with Kennedy leading the way with seven shots, four on goal. Semerene and Laning each contributed a shot on goal each as well.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half as both defenses played well. The Huskies' defense did not give the Tigers any good looks as only one of their seven shots were on goal. Northeastern managed to get five shots on goal in the first half, but Towson goalie John Steele made five saves to keep the game tied.
In the second half both teams were evenly matched offensively, as NU and Towson attempted eight shots each in the half and Northeastern was able to capitalize first when Kennedy received a pass on the right side from Alexander Volk at 75:45 for his fourth goal of the season.
The Huskies' 1-0 lead did not last long as Towson received a penalty kick two minutes later for a foul in the goal area, which Matt Beckman scored on to tie the game 1-1. The goal was the first goal Partridge had allowed in two games. The NU keeper made five saves in the contest.
Northeastern will host George Mason on homecoming weekend this Saturday at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field.
