Box Score The Huskies came out a little flat in the game and never capitalized on their scoring opportunities in a disappointing 0-0 ties against Maine in Orono, Maine.
"This was a tough one for our boys," said head coach
Brian Ainscough. "They never really got into the game and it's a game we felt we should have won. We had too many opportunities to score that we didn't capitalize on."
The Huskies out shot the Black Bears 21-13 in the match and held a big advantage in corner kicks 15-7. For the second consecutive game they were unable to put it passed the goalkeeper and have now been held scoreless in three of their six matches this season. The Huskies also tied No. 25 Providence 0-0 on Tuesday night at Parsons Field.
Northeastern has been getting great play from their keeper Scott Partridge, who after letting up three goals to Holy Cross last Saturday, has shutout two straight opponents making a combined 11 saves.
Northeastern's best chance to win the game came in the first half on a shot in the box from Lewis Ehrlich. The Huskies outshot Maine 8-4 in the first half. Maine almost put in the game winner in the first overtime on a header that just missed the cross bar. Maine got seven saves from keeper Nemanja Kostic, who recorded his third career shutout.
The Huskies were led by midfielder Alexander Volk who had five shots. Maine's Thomas McCole led the team with four.
The Huskies' record is now 1-2-3 on the season while Maine goes 2-4-1. The Huskies are back in action on Tuesday at home against Boston University.
