Northeastern beats Boston University

Box Score The Huskies' defense had yet another strong performance on Tuesday afternoon at Parsons Field as Northeastern topped BU 1-0. NU got a goal from freshman Mike Kennedy in the 47th minute, which was setup by a nice pass from Lewis Ehrlich. The Huskies improve their record to 2-2-3 as the Terriers fall to 2-4-2 on the season.

Boston University was coming off an impressive 4-2 win against Colgate but the Northeastern defense proved to be a tough challenge as BU only got off nine shots, with three on goal.

“BU is better than their record indicates,” said head coach Brian Ainscough. “They started their season against four top-15 teams and they played us really tough. They are a very good team.”

The Huskies held the upper hand in the first half, but were unable to put any points on the board to show for it. They outshot BU 4-2 in the half and had several scoring opportunities. Their best scoring chance came in the 34th minute when Lewis Ehrlich received a nice pass from Alexander Volk and went one-on-one with the goalie, but fired wide right of the net.

Kennedy was able to score in the first minutes of the second half top put the Huskies up 1-0. The Huskies kept the pressure on for much of the second half as they had several opportunities to score. Mike Kennedy led the way with three shots on goal, while Ehrlich and Volk both contributed two of their own.

“I thought we matched up really well against BU,” said Ainscough. “I felt like we held the upper hand for most of the match and the whole team really performed well. I was happy that we got Volk involved more in the game. He had a great game.”

Keeper Scott Partridge continued his great play in net as he recorded three saves in the game and shutout his third team in a row. Partridge made some key saves as the Terriers put some pressure on late in the game. He now has 36 saves in seven starts in net for the Huskies, including three shutouts.

Northeastern is back in action on Saturday as the Huskies open their conference schedule at home against James Madison at 6 p.m.
