Northeastern men's soccer defeated Albany in overtime Tuesday, 1-0. Sophomore
Mike Kennedy scored the game winning goal assisted by
Josh Semerene in the 96th minute to open the season with a victory. Huskies goalie, freshman
Michael Gallagher, made seven saves and earned a shutout in his first collegiate game.
With 16:30 to go in the second half, Albany's Claudio Dantas tackled Northeastern midfielder
Brian Thomsen from behind and earned a red card for a dangerous tackle. The Great Danes were forced to play the remainder of the game one man down.
Six minutes into the overtime period, the Huskies took advantage of Albany's depleted numbers. Playing the ball out wide,
Josh Semerene ripped a shot at Albany goalkeeper Adrian Foncette. Foncette saved the shot, but punched it out to the waiting leg of
Mike Kennedy who slipped the ball into the bottom corner for the goal.

Josh Danesh and
Andre Ciliotta.
The win improves the Huskies to 1-0-0 on the season. They will travel to Hanover, N.H. Sunday to face off against Dartmouth at 3:00 p.m.
