The Northeastern men's soccer team fell in double overtime on Saturday at Old Dominion, 1-0.

Old Dominion had the first chance of the contest in the sixth minute, but freshman Oliver Blum was able to stop Alex De John's blast. Sophomore Don Anding ripped the first shot for the Huskies, but Evan Newton was there for the save in the eighth minute.

The Monarchs fired the next five shots of the half, but none were on net to test Blum. Anding fired another shot on goal in the 41st minute, but Newton was up to the task. Freshman Laurence Braude tried to close the half with a chance in the 44th minute, but Newton was there again and the contest went to halftime scoreless.

Anding would continue firing in the second half, as he was stopped again by Newton in the 54th minute. ODU's Yannick Smith tried his luck in the 55th minute, but Blum made the stop.

The teams traded offsides calls and falls for much of the middle of the second half, and neither team had a shot on goal until the Monarchs' Gideon Assante's shot in the 81st minute was turned away by Blum.

Junior Mike Kennedy took the final shot of regulation in the 90th minute, but his attempt sailed high and the contest went to overtime.

Northeastern was able to muster a pair of corners early in the first extra period, but nothing came of either attempt. Braude took the first shot of overtime in the 95th minute, but Newton was there for the save.
The teams traded shots on goal in the 100th minute, but Anding's attempt was saved by Newton before Smith's try was turned aside by Blum, and the match headed to double overtime.

Old Dominion's Daniel Lidster opened the final frame with a shot on goal, but Blum was up to the task. Anding reeled off another shot in the 104th minute, but a team save by the Monarchs prevented him from taking home the game-winner.

After Northeastern was unable to capitalize on a corner kick in the 105th minute, Lidster took a feed from Thomas Webb and punched the game-winner past Blum , just forty seconds after the Huskies corner.
Blum recorded five saves for the Huskies in the loss, and his record falls to 5-7-3. Newton recorded six saves for the Monarchs to notch the shutout.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 5-8-3 on the year with a 3-4-3 mark in CAA play. Old Dominion moves to 8-6-2 on the year (4-4-2 CAA).

The Huskies return to action on Senior Day next Saturday when they host William & Mary at 6 p.m. for their final regular season contest of 2010. Live stats and video for the contest will be available on GoNU.TV.
