Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
Freshman forward Katie MacSorley notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season, but the Huskies (7-3-4, 1-2-3 WHEA) dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 10/8 Providence College Friars (9-4-1, 2-1-1 WHEA) on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.

Northeastern threw 26 shots at Providence goaltender Genevieve Lacasse in the third period, but Lacasse, the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for October, turned aside 25 of those shots to preserve the win. The Huskies recorded 40 shots on goal for the entire game.

The Huskies fell behind early thanks to two tallies in under two minutes in the first period from the Friars. Kate Bacon notched a power play goal, her 10th goal of the season, at 6:33 of the opening stanza before Rebecca Morse slotted home her second goal of the season at the 8:18 juncture.

Bacon added her second goal of the contest early in the second period to make it 3-0. The score remained that way until MacSorley brought Northeastern back within two goals when she tipped a Stephanie Gavronsky shot past Lacasse to make it 3-1. The goal came at the 6:50 mark of the third period. Gavronsky now has an assist in each of the last two games.

Ashley Cottrell put Providence ahead, 4-1, halfway through the third period to close the scoring.

Junior goaltender Florence Schelling made 27 saves in the loss, including 10 saves in the third period. Gavronsky led the team with seven shots on goal.

The Huskies will look to avenge the defeat when the two teams tangle on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m.
