Huskies defeat UMass-Lowell, 4-1, in final exhibition

Box score

Paced by two goals from senior Nick Leuders, the Northeastern men's soccer team defeated the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks, 4-1, in an exhibition on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.

The Huskies pressured the Riverhawks from the onset, and the consistent pressure paid off at the 14:58 mark when junior Mike Kennedy converted a penalty to put Northeastern ahead, 1-0.

Northeastern mustered a whopping 18 shots in the first half, and the Huskies made sure the last one counted. With just 17 seconds left in the frame, Northeastern took a free kick just outside the box. The initial shot was blocked, but Leuders was there for the rebound, finishing just inside the right post for the 2-0 lead.

The Huskies added to their lead at the 70:52 mark thanks to a nice run and a nifty pass. Kennedy dribbled down the left side, and crossed the ball into the box, where freshman AJ Stueck booted it past the keeper for the 3-0 lead.

Leuders finished the scoring off for Northeastern in the 82nd minute. After some quick dribbling created space just inside the box, he blasted a shot that found the top right corner of the net.

With the Huskies ahead, 4-0, Lowell tallied their only goal when, after a free kick, Francis Adu-Gyamfi was alone in the box for the rebound.

Northeastern begins its regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown at 4 p.m.
